Reindeer herding tradition

Reindeer herding is an ancient Sami tradition that has been the heart of our family for generations.
We follow the flock as our forefathers did, from winter pasture on the meadow to summer pasture on the coast.

We look after and shepherd the flock, but the reindeer is not tame.

We put the reindeer first and the reindeer has it best when it lives wild, as it always has.
The herd follows regular paths according to the seasons and travels hundreds of kilometers each year.

The taste of Finnmark

Reindeer meat is one of the leanest and healthiest meat in the world. It contains twice as many nutrients as other meats, including large amounts of Omega-3.
Much of this comes from the food; low and arctic heather.

It is important for us to maintain the traditions of our ancestors and to offer our customers meat of the highest quality. We therefore use ancient methods for drying and preserving the meat, without any additives.
The taste of wild nature should emerge.

Based on the small village of Jergul, high up on the plateau in Karasjok municipality, we established Skodi Rein in 2012.
As reindeer herding, the love of reindeer and reindeer has always been central to our lives.
We wanted to do our best to keep the old Sami traditions alive and Skodi Rein became our contribution to this.

The family business is run by Karen Utsi Sara and John Anders Sara, and it is our own herd flock that is
basically
our products.

In 2017, we were awarded the "Reindeer Meat Mediator of the Year" by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
In 2018, we won NM gold for best product.

We look forward to developing the company further and continue to supply the market's most exclusive reindeer meat.
